There are several options which can provide a durable protective coating and textured finish to customize the aesthetics of the ramp surface to your liking. If you prefer paint, the finished Curb Ramp can be painted to match your driveway color. While we do not currently endorse nor sell specific brands or products for top coating, numerous customers have reported success using a variety of products available at their local hardware store including beige exterior and garage floor paints. Simply explain to the store paint professional that you are painting an outdoor surface and note that it will need to endure frequent traffic. You can also apply a powdered cement – just sprinkle the concrete dust over the ramp to achieve the desired look. This can be done while the ramp is still drying or at a later time, provided you apply a layer of adhesive first.

If you would like the option to remove the ramp at a later date, you must first lay down a protective underlayment over the curb surface. We recommend using a durable substrate cut into strips to fit your curb. Below are several options. You will be priming the surface of the membrane (instead of the curb itself) to ensure a good material bond. After you cut and tape the substrate strips to the curb, proceed with the installation steps as outlined in the enclosed instructions – i.e. mix, spread, shape & compress the compound to fill the gap in your driveway curb.

If you plan on installing a drainage channel underneath your ramp, lay the pipe or channel in the middle of the curb gap where water flows naturally. Use construction adhesive to anchor the channel to the curb or substrate (for removable ramps). Then, proceed with installation as usual.

Using a Substrate for Removable Ramps

After you perform a dry run and confirm you have enough material for your particular driveway, lay down a protective layer over the curb surface (so as not to prime the curb surface directly) and tape it down around the edges. We recommend using a durable substrate cut into strips to fit your curb. For example, a 5′ x 6′ sheet can be cut into (3) 2′ x 5′ strips to cover 15 ft on a standard rolled curb. Lay the strips over the curb where your ramp will be and tape them down to hold them in place for the installation. Next, prime the surface of the membrane to ensure a good material bond to the laid substrate. Then, mix and apply the compound atop the substrate to fill the curb gap as you would normally. After 48 hours, your customized driveway ramp should be dry enough to use. The weight of the material and underlying substrate should provide sufficient stability to keep the ramp in place, but you can also apply a little bit of adhesive to the underside corners of the substrate to help anchor it to the curb. Compatible Driveway Curb Types

Drainage Channels (Optional)

Installing a drainage pipe can help water flow naturally underneath the ramp. The process is straightforward and involves anchoring a rectangular tube, channel, or pipe in the middle of the curb gap using construction adhesive. These come in varies types, shapes, and sizes. The height of the tube should be proportional to your curb gap. Do not use too big of a pipe for your curb gap because it can compromise the integrity of the ramp. For standard rolled curbs, customers have reported success with drainage pipes 3/4 inch in diameter. Material Estimations

The amount of material required to fill your curb gutter depends primarily on the width of your driveway and depth of the curb gap. Each unit cover approximately 1.5 cubic feet, or about 8 feet on standard rolled curbs with a 2 inch center gap when sloped at a ~25° incline over ~20 inches from the top of the curb to the street.
