Description

Why Cars Bottom Out at the Base of Steep Driveways
Many steep driveways don’t just have a problem at the street — they have a low spot or valley as the driveway drops down toward the garage.
- Common causes include:
- Steep downhill approaches
- Drainage channels or French drains
- Settled concrete creating a dip
- Short garage aprons with a sudden transition
As the front tires roll downhill, they drop into the low point, causing the center or front of the car to bottom out before the tires climb again.
- This happens even when:
- You already cleared the street entry
- The garage lip itself isn’t very tall
- You drive slowly and at an angle
The ElevateDrive™ Back-to-Back Ramp Solution
Instead of lifting only one side of the transition, this setup uses two ramp sets placed back-to-back to span the low spot.
This keeps the tires elevated through the entire dip, preventing the vehicle from dropping into the valley where scraping occurs.
Think of it as bridging the low spot, not just climbing an edge.

How to Position the Ramps
- Drive downhill toward the garage until the car just starts to scrape
- Stop and note where the front tires are sitting
- Place the first ramp set under the tires at that position
- Place the second ramp set directly behind it, back-to-back
This creates a longer, gradual lift that carries the tires through the lowest point.
Recommended Ramp Sizes for Low-Spot Garage Entries
These ramps are available in 2.5″–4″ heights with 18″–24″ front-to-back depth. When placed back-to-back, they span roughly 3–4 feet, creating a smooth transition through low spots leading into the garage. Most setups use four total ramps — two under the left tires and two under the right.
Alternatively, GlideGuard™ ramps are also commonly used in these situations. They require fewer pieces for a more minimalist setup, but offer less flexibility in terms of height and depth.
With either model, the modular design allows you to run a wider pad or keep the setup minimal under each tire, depending on your preference.

Installation Options
ElevateDrive™ ramps can be installed using:
- Included concrete anchors, or
- Polyurethane construction adhesive (no drilling required)
Adhesive installs are popular for homeowners who want a secure hold without permanent modification.
Ideal for Low Spots & Garage Declines
- Modular sizing for precise adjustment
- Designed to lift under the tires, not the body
- Heavy-duty rubber resists compression
- Works with drains and uneven concrete
- Can be expanded later if conditions change
