Installing a Drainage Channel

If you plan on installing a drainage channel underneath your ramp, lay the pipe or channel in the middle of the curb gap where water flows naturally. Use construction adhesive to anchor the channel to the curb or substrate (for removable ramps). Then, proceed with installation as usual.

Protective Underlayments For Removable Ramps

If you would like the option to remove the ramp at a later date, you must first lay down a protective underlayment over the curb surface. We recommend using a durable substrate cut into strips to fit your curb. Below are several options. You will be priming the surface of the membrane (instead of the curb itself) to ensure a good material bond. After you cut and tape the substrate strips to the curb, proceed with the installation steps as outlined in the enclosed instructions – i.e. mix, spread, shape & compress the compound to fill the gap in your driveway curb.

Using a Substrate for Removable Ramps

After you perform a dry run and confirm you have enough material for your particular driveway, lay down a protective layer over the curb surface (so as not to prime the curb surface directly) and tape it down around the edges. We recommend using a durable substrate cut into strips to fit your curb. For example, a 5′ x 6′ sheet can be cut into (3) 2′ x 5′ strips to cover 15 ft on a standard rolled curb. Lay the strips over the curb where your ramp will be and tape them down to hold them in place for the installation. Next, prime the surface of the membrane to ensure a good material bond to the laid substrate. Then, mix and apply the compound atop the substrate to fill the curb gap as you would normally. After 48 hours, your customized driveway ramp should be dry enough to use. The weight of the material and underlying substrate should provide sufficient stability to keep the ramp in place, but you can also apply a little bit of adhesive to the underside corners of the substrate to help anchor it to the curb. Concrete bolts can be used to fasten the ramp to your curb as well, once the material has cured. If you need to remove the ramp for any reason, you can simply lift it up and move it. Learn more

Step-by-Step Installation

Step 1: Clean

To begin installation of your driveway ramp, sweep and blow the curb gutter to remove all dirt and help the primer adhere to the curb surface. If your driveway curb is very badly soiled, you may want to pressure wash it and let it dry first.

If you are installing a removable ramp, lay substrate over the curb gap and tape it down, as you will be priming the surface of the substrate, rather than the curb itself. See: How To Make Your Curb Ramp Removable

Step 2: Mix

Mix the material with the adhesive using a trowel or drill mixer until the granules are fully coated. You can use the shipping box or an empty 5 gallon bucket for mixing. Begin by pouring in approximately ¾ of the adhesive onto the granules and mixing completely until there are no dry patches and the granules are wet and fully coated. You can add more if needed but do not use the entire gallon all at once.There should be a little bit of adhesive left over which can be used for priming. Avoid leaving any dry patches that could potentially compromise the ramp’s integrity. The granules should be fully coated but the mix should not be too “soupy”.

Step 3: Prime

Prime the curb surface or substrate with any leftover adhesive using a paint brush or roller to ensure a good bond.

Step 4: Spread

Spread the mixture to fill the dried curb curb surface at the desired angle to bridge the gap between the driveway and street. Slope and feather out the ends to facilitate water drainage. Do not create a hard right angle at the ends. Shape and compress the material using a trowel and form the edges for clean install lines. Tamp it down thoroughly to ensure there are no air gaps. Allow 24-48 hours to dry.

The process is straightforward and involves anchoring a rectangular tube, channel, or pipe in the middle of the curb gap using construction adhesive. These come in varies types, shapes, and sizes. The height of the tube should be proportional to your curb gap. Do not use too big of a pipe for your curb gap because it can compromise the integrity of the ramp. For standard rolled curbs, customers have reported success with drainage pipes 3/4 inch in diameter. Curb Ramp creates a custom-fit ramp to any shape driveway curb (not just rolled curbs) and can be molded to accommodate any desired slope.

Curb Ramp offers further customization, allowing you to bond it to your curb for a permanent solution or to create a removable curb ramp using a substrate. This way, if you need to remove it in the future, you can easily do so. To secure the substrate, you can simply apply some of the enclosed adhesive to the underside of the corners. Two kits of Curb Ramp will cover most 16 ft standard rolled curbs. More customizable and less expensive than factory-made rubber ramps, Curb Ramp provides the best DIY curb ramp solution.

WARNING: Avoid direct inhalation of vapors. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. The adhesive is very strong and does not come off easily so we also recommend wearing disposable gloves. STORAGE: Store in a relatively warm place in the days/hours leading up to the installation. If its been sitting out in the cold for a while, it will become thick like molasses and difficult to work with.

Material Estimations

The amount of material required to fill your curb gutter depends primarily on the width of your driveway and depth of the curb gap. Each unit cover approximately 1.5 cubic feet, or about 8 feet on standard rolled curbs with a 2 inch center gap when sloped at a ~25° incline over ~20 inches from the top of the curb to the street.
